Subjects Taught
American History I, AP US History, Honors American History I

Education

I went to high school at East Davidson. I attended High Point University and graduated with a BS in History with a minor in Secondary Education.

Experience

When I graduated in 1997 there were very few job opportunities in the area so I began my teaching career in Scotland County, NC. After six years in the eastern part of NC I decided to come back home. I taught for four years in Guilford County and then in 2006 came to Trinity. I obtained my National Board Certification in 2007 and in 2013 I obtained additional licensure for Academically and Intellectually gifted students.

Bio

"An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life."

Hello! My name is Kerri Smith and I am your child's Social Studies teacher. This particular quote is one of the reasons why I became a teacher. I beleive it is our job to help young people become better students and also life long learners. I currently teach American History I, Honors American History I and II and AP U.S. History.

I am from Thomasville. I have a twelve year old son, Jake, who is in seventh grade at High Point Christian Academy. He is very active and plays sports so this keeps me VERY busy!

I believe that it was my calling to be a teacher and it is something that I take very seriously. I am a perpetual student, I love learning new ways to better improve my teaching.  I currently serve as the Department Chair for the Social Studies department. I hope that your child will enjoy the semester as much as possible and have fun at the same time! I have high expectations for my students and I want them to be successful. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns about your child. The easiest way to contact me is by email at k6smith@randolph.k12.nc.us. My planning period is 2nd in the fall and  1st in the spring. I look forward to a successful year!
